Serves as a case manager and instructor assessing, planning, facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating each junior’s educational needs in the areas of academics, inclusion, social development, self-determination, independence, time management, and organization
- Prepares for and instructs a CharlestonLIFE™ support session each semester: Personal Finance and Community Engagement
- Facilitates a weekly planning forum to discuss academic planning, self-determination, goal setting, financial planning, and other topics
- Provides individualized support for students through weekly meetings to discuss goals, progress, and any unresolved issues/concerns
- Supports students’ individualized modifications and accommodations needed for academic success and works with students who may need accommodations that are not available through the College’s Center for Disability Services
- Determines which assistive technologies students can continue to use postgraduation
- Communicates weekly with CharlestonLIFE™ staff, tutors, professors, and mentors regarding students’ progress and challenges in both academic and social settings while honoring the student’s FERPA rights
- Meets with students to develop their person-centered plans
- Collaborates with and advises the career coordinator on internships that may be best suited for students
- Supports students’ social development and integration in inclusive activities on and off-campus
- Assists students in their transition to an increased level of independent living by providing direct instruction for skill development in the area of ADL, social skills, personal safety, healthy relationships, personal finance, travel training (to include community-based instruction on public transportation), as outlined in each student’s PATH plan
- Assists students with their emergency plans during mandatory closures and evacuations
- Addresses issues that may arise at the residence halls and internship sites
