Description
Food Service Workers perform tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks that requires attention to work operations. They will accomplish repetitive assignments and follow an established sequence of work. They can work in one or more functional areas of the kitchen such as food preparation, dish and pot washing, dry and refrigerated storage and receiving, and the serving area doing work such as portioning cold food, dipping hot food, working in the dish room and passing trays.
Food Preparation:
Portions salads, desserts, juices, and other specified food items for service line in accordance with established procedures and 1-IACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) guidelines. Washes fresh fruits and vegetables as assigned by supervisor. Uses simple recipes to prepare cold foods like sandwiches, salads and desserts. Stocks tray line with cold foods and assures that no cold foods stocked have expired dates. Works rotating stations on the meal assembly line and accurately assembles patient's meal trays using knowledge of specialized diets. Works with speed and accuracy, observing if all items are on the tray
Sanitation:
Fills dish machine, checks temperature gauges and checks for proper functioning of dish machine and records temperatures on temperature log as assigned by supervisor. Cleans dish machine thoroughly after use, according to established policy and communicates any dish machine malfunctioning problems to the supervisor. Cleans work area, dishes, and cooking equipment. Deep cleans pots and pans using 3 compartment sink
Tray Delivery and Pick Up:
Delivers carts without unnecessary delay to designated units and calls patient's name (uses two personal identifiers) before placing tray al bedside to ensure the specified patient is receiving the correct tray. Pulls loaded trucks to the units and serves trays to patient's bedside.
Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Medical Center.
Work Schedule:
Variable Part-time shifts between 5:30am-6:30pm. Holidays and weekends are required. Hours subject to change based on the needs of the agency.

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements:
Wage Grade 3 Food Service Workers perform work requiring light to moderate physical effort. They may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. They are subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 40 pounds with the assistance of others.
Working Conditions:
The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well-lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.There is no educational requirement for this position.
