The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) provides career-long training to law enforcement professionals to help them fulfill their responsibilities safely and proficiently. For over 50 years, FLETC has grown into the Nation's largest provider of law enforcement training. Under a collaborative training model, FLETC's federal participating organizations deliver training unique to their missions, while FLETC provides training in areas common to all law enforcement officers, such as firearms, driving, tactics, investigations, active shooter and legal training.

To ensure the training it offers is up-to-date and relevant to emerging needs, FLETC's curriculum development and review process engages experts from across all levels of law enforcement, and FLETC partners extensively with other agencies and stakeholders in training research and the exchange of best practices to ensure it offers the most effective training subject matter, technologies, and methodologies.

The primary purpose of this position is for a Law Enforcement Internship: Designed for students who are interested in a career in law enforcement, you will be assigned a mentor from one of the FLETC training divisions. Half of your time will be spent auditing basic or advanced training programs. The remaining half of your time will be spent working on meaningful training-related research and writing projects under the guidance of your mentor. Participation in this internship may also include observation of and participation in parts of live law enforcement training.

The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Specific Requirements: Undergraduate Students

  1. Earned at least 75 semester hours by the time of application. (Must supply all transcripts) (Future credits, courses or hours will not be counted towards the semester/hours required. No rounding.
  2. Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.

Specific Requirements: Graduate Students

  1. Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale. (Must supply undergraduate transcripts as well with your graduate transcripts)

General Requirements:

  1. U.S. Citizenship.
  2. Remain enrolled with your academic institution during the course of the internship period.
  3. This program will run from June 2, 2025, to July 25, 2025, and you must be able to participate for the entire duration of the program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

College Intern Program (CIP) is an 8-week program hosted by FLETC that is open to U.S. citizens who are either undergraduate students with at least 75 semester hours (135 quarter hours) or graduate students. CIP participants are unpaid and do not receive a stipend or per diem.

  • Participants are solely responsible for any and all travel arrangements and expenses.
  • Participants expend half of their time auditing the training courses at their respective location, while the remaining half of their time is used to support their assigned branch, division, or directorate in furthering mission goals. Participation in this internship may also include observation of and participation in parts of live law enforcement training.
  • Housing and meals are provided to full-time participants selected for the Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina; and Glynco, Georgia, locations only and who are located outside the local commuting area.
  • Participants selected for the Cheltenham, Maryland location, will be responsible for their own housing and meals.
  • College credit(s) may be granted to the participant by their academic institution once they successfully complete the program.

You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship. This internship does NOT offer conversion to permanent employment. You will be required to complete the FLETC Student Volunteer Service Agreement and DHS Form 1000-6 Non-Disclosure Agreement if you are selected.

FLETC reserves the right to discontinue the College Intern Program (CIP) at any time for any reason.
