Job Purpose

Enforces parking permit requirements and motor vehicle laws & regulations on the College of Charleston campus. Trains all temporary parking enforcement officers.

Minimum Requirements

High school graduate and one year security or other related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate in a courteous but firm manner with the general public. Capable of acting quickly and intelligently in emergency situations. Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and explain the parking rules and regulations. Experience training other employees a plus.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

The person filling this position must be able to lift up to thirty pounds, and be physically able to place and remove vehicle immobilizing devices. Requires working knowledge of campus and ability to walk campus. Must be able to maintain an even temperament while working in a stressful environment.

Patrols all College of Charleston parking lots to enforce permit requirements as outlined in the College’s parking regulations. Understands and uses all handheld ticket writer functions. Downloads handheld ticket writer at the conclusion of each shift.

Activity

Places vehicle immobilizers on vehicles and tows vehicles as required by policy. Tows vehicles that are impeding the flow of traffic. Communicates with Campus Services HQ prior to immobilizing and/or towing vehicles. At end of each shift, provides Public Safety with information about outstanding booted or towed vehicles.

Serves as a front-line campus liaison for Campus Services HQ. Provides students, employees, and visitors with campus information, directions, assistance, etc.

Activity

Trains all new temporary parking enforcement officers in the field, which includes demonstrating various tasks, equipment use and teaching regulations. Monitors and provides follow-up guidance for staff to reinforce training. Serves as the front-line resource for new temporary parking enforcement officers.
