Description You will serve as a Medical Instrument Technician in a medical division of the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

This public notice announcement is for a standing register for anticipated vacancies and may be used to fill similar vacancies. Notices of Results may or may not be sent to applicants who apply.This position may or may not have a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARMDS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). You must upload your certificate/credential to be considered when this selective placement factor is applicable.

For GS-11, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-10) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Performing a variety of complex diagnostic and treatment procedures using specialized medical equipment;
  • Making recommendations to physicians based on observation of patients during procedures;
  • Directing or instructing others in the operation of specialized equipment to perform complex diagnostic or treatment procedures on patients; and
  • Resolving advanced or emergency technical problems with specialized medical equipment.
For GS-10, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Directing or instructing others in the operation of specialized equipment to perform complex diagnostic or treatment procedures on patients;
  • Determining optimal procedures or instruments based on patient physical condition; and
  • Resolving diverse and complex technical problems with specialized medical equipment.
For GS-09, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Operating specialized equipment to perform complex diagnostic or treatment procedures on patients;
  • Resolving diverse and complex technical problems with specialized medical equipment;
  • Instructing others in the operation of specialized medical equipment; and
  • Managing or overseeing maintenance of medical instruments.
For GS-08, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Instructing others in the operation of specialized medical equipment;
  • Operating specialized medical equipment to perform diagnostic or treatment procedures on patients; and
  • Applying knowledge of position alternatives to position patients for examination or treatment.
For GS-07, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Operating specialized medical equipment to perform diagnostic or treatment procedures on patients;
  • Applying knowledge of position alternatives to position patients for examination or treatment; and
  • Using advanced medical terminology.
For GS-06, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Performing or assisting with routine diagnostic or treatment procedures on patients;
  • Assisting patients undergoing examination or treatment; and
  • Using a broad range of medical terminology.
For GS-05, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Specialized experience for this position is
  • Assisting with preparation or use of basic medical instruments for diagnostic or treatment procedures; and
  • Using basic medical terminology.
