Job Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Sr. Position Control/Assignment Manager, performs duties in the creation and maintenance of position control and assignment functions for student, temporary, adjunct and permanent employees. Assists with managing complex accounting/payroll processes which tie Payroll Services to Budgeting Services.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, preference in a business field; or an applicable associate’s degree and two years of experience with data entry and analysis. Prefer experience Banner and Cognos. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Current knowledge of, or be able to, interpret and apply, relevant laws, regulations and policies dealing with employment and payroll, including state and governmental processes and regulations. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Excellent Excel and organizational skills. Must demonstrate initiative and self-motivation. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

May be required to work outside normal work hours when meeting a deadline or during peak processing periods.

*This position may be eligible for part-time telecommuting.

3. Works closely with the Office of Research and Grants Administration and the Controller’s Office to ensure accuracy of personal services expenditures to grant accounts, including moving charges should it be necessary.

4. Uses complex data reports and extract files from the Banner system and the Operational Data Store (ODS) to ensure accuracy of data input for all 24 payrolls in the year. Maintains a position list of temporary and student positions and provides list to Human Resources and the Career Center as needed.

5. Provides high quality customer service to employees and hiring departments with regard to inquiries to employee paychecks, time sheets, funding sources, and other issues involving the payroll process. This includes, but is not limited to, timely responses to inquiries in budget and payroll inbox. Demonstrates strong problem solving and team collaboration skills when needed.

6. Maintains a procedure manual for the position. Works with the Sr. Position Control Manager to identify and implement efficiencies in the position processes. Has knowledge of all routine position control duties to be able to backup Sr. Position Control Manager as needed.
