Job Summary

VC Summer in Jenkinsville, SC is looking for a Reactor Engineer II or III.  This role is the middle to top progression level position in the Engineer series.  Includes proficient to senior to technical expert engineers, able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. At higher levels of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. Provides guidance to less experienced Engineers.  May be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:  Engineer II:  3 or more years of commercial nuclear power experience is required;  Engineer III: 5 or more years of commercial nuclear power experience is required.  Reactor Engineering and/or Core Design experience is required.  Experience with flux mapping, reactivity management, startup physics testing, fuel movement planning, new fuel receipt inspection, fuel handling support, Special Nuclear Material accounting, and online reactor core monitoring are highly preferred, but not required.  A background with three loop Westinghouse ANC core design, BEACON™, and TracWorks™ software is also preferred.  Must have thorough communication knowledge and skills, and strong grasp of engineering principles and skills. Must be able to: plan, direct, coordinate overall engineering for specific projects, plan and direct engineering activities in support of nuclear operations with thorough focus on safety, analysis, problem solving, performance efficiency, availability, dependability, and budget/costs; performs field supervision of complex engineering projects, evaluate and approve design changes and modifications, review work and evaluate work of subordinate engineers, develops specifications, review and qualify complex project bids from a technical overview, perform or oversee performance test and system compatibility, performs short and long term condition assessment of components and systems, provides leadership, direction, development and guidance to employees within similar disciplined classification of engineering work groups.

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
