Job Purpose

The Assistant Director of Scholarships is responsible for maintaining the Cougar Scholarship Award System (BlackBaud Award Management) on behalf of Institutional Advancement to manage privately funded scholarships awarded by the College. Additional focus for this position is to steward scholarship donors so they know the impact of their gifts and are inspired and motivated to give more through impact reporting and creating unique acknowledgment pieces.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree is required and a minimum of two years’ related experience in scholarship management, donor relations, development, or alumni relations. Understanding of the College’s scholarship process is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Keen organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner. Demonstrated focus on details, quality assurance and results. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals, from students to upper administration and donors. Ability to treat financial and other personal data with confidentiality and discretion. Must be a self-starter and work independently. University Advancement experience and working knowledge of Raisers Edge, BlackBaud Award Management and Banner databases are strongly preferred. Experience with TargetX, Salesforce, Slate, Fire Engine Red, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Dynamics may also be useful. Knowledge of graphic design is preferred.

Collaborates with the Foundation Funds Manager, Admissions, IT and Financial Aid to update and maintain BlackBaud Award Management (Cougar Scholarship Award System), the College’s web-based scholarship application program, which includes 600+ opportunities and growing. Includes serving as customer support for 15 – 17 school-based scholarship liaisons and 70+ faculty who administer/review scholarships plus approximately 2,500 students who use the system to apply for scholarships. With Funds Manager, reconciles recipient reports with scholarship budgets to identify unused funds and work with schools/units to spend all allotted scholarship funds each fiscal year. Conducts training sessions for scholarship liaisons to ensure appropriate and complete use of scholarship funds and use in accordance with donor intent.

Oversees the Stewardship Module of CSAS to produce comprehensive scholarship reports by synthesizing donor, financial and recipient information for approximately 600+ (and growing) separate scholarship funds in collaboration with Financial Aid, Financial Services and school/unit scholarship liaisons.

Creates tailored events with the Assistant Director of Donor Relations for scholarship donors including serving as the team lead for the annual Endowment Donor appreciation event in the spring. Creates bespoke engagement opportunities for donors to get to know their scholarship recipients. Co-lead on Thank You Note Drive.
