Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree Required, skilled in working with diverse groups of people, understanding students and student development, ability to communicate effectively with College of Charleston students and neighbors in the city of Charleston. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the ability to understand the sensitivity and privacy of neighbors and students. It requires the ability to determine the level of severity of issues that students and neighbors face and determine how to best address students and neighbors needs in order to keep good relations with one another. This position requires case management, and the ability to have developmental and conduct related conversations with students as needed.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

This position is flexible between 30-40 hours per week for a successful candidate.

*The candidate filling this position may be eligible for healthcare benefits.

Activity

Develop and foster relationships with the permanent residents of Charleston in neighborhoods surrounding and/or relevant to the College of Charleston

Assist students and families that may need a better understanding of city rules and regulations
Coordinate opportunities for students and College of Charleston faculty and staff to have a positive impact with neighbors in the Charleston community

Educate students on the responsibilities of living in the Charleston community Communicate with students regarding issues and complaints from neighbors
Receive and investigate complaints from residents regarding trash, noise, and student behavior

Attend and participate in monthly neighborhood meetings for neighborhoods surrounding and/or relevant to the College of Charleston students

Activity

Communicate regularly with the College of Charleston Department of Public Safety, Charleston Police Department and Livability. Use a conduct database, Maxient, to record and monitor conduct violations. Facilitate conduct meetings with students as necessary.

Facilitate CARE meetings with students, providing resources, referrals and coordinating student follow up as appropriate. Engage with campus partners through attendance, participation and collaboration at college events to help promote a supportive and inclusive environment

Assist with front desk operations on occasion as needed, providing support to student employees via answering phones, emails while guiding them in duties. Serve as part of the Student Affairs on call rotation. Other duties as assigned
