Hoffman Building Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1985 as the controls division of Hoffman and Hoffman. HBT became an Alerton dealer in 1987 and is now a leading supplier of building automation systems (BMS), automated control systems, systems integration, critical airflow solutions, and energy management systems. We serve the building automation needs for hospitals, corporations, schools, apartment buildings, financial institutions, and many other entities.  Our customers include BMW, Facebook, Wake Forest University, UNC/Charlotte, Marine Base Camp Lejeune, US Army Fort Jackson, Moses Cone Health System, Michelin, Sonic Automotive and High Point University.

Candidates should have electrical/electronic experience with mechanical equipment knowledge. Bachelors degree is preferred but not required dependent on occupational experience.

 

Completes designs and programming of controls systems by creating state of the art control system design packages and programming. 

ORGANIZES SYSTEM DESIGN PROJECTS by: 

Accepting new projects from Engineering Manager; collecting and completing all needed project documentation; understanding project requirements, collaborating with Sales, Project Manager, and Engineering Manager to gain any specific project issues and proper scheduling.

PREPARES SYSTEM DESIGN PACKAGES (SUBMITTALS) by:

Analyzing electrical, mechanical, and process system plans and schematics; identifying opportunities to improve system design; completing system diagrams (P&ID), wiring diagrams, sequence of operation, points lists, per system design; bill of materials, valve and other needed schedules as required by the project documentation and standard practices within cost and project time-frame.

COORDINATES TURNOVER OF SYSTEM DESIGN PACKAGES TO PROJECT MANAGEMENT by:

Preparing project manuals per standard practices; transferring any unique project data for installation (i.e. equipment wiring diagrams); reviewing project information with Project Manager. 

RESOLVES DESIGN ISSUES DURING CONSTRUCTION by:

Completing needed design changes from Consultant review; modifying design changes per field requirements or change orders.

ORGANIZES SYSTEM PROGRAMING PROJECTS by:

Accepting projects from Engineering Manager; understanding electrical, HVAC, and process control project requirements, sequence of operation and control system type (DDC or PC based control); conferring and collaborating with Engineering Manager and other members of the engineering and Ops team.

PREPARES SYSTEM PROGRAMMING PACKAGES by:

Creating programs using DDC (Direct Digital Controls) per standard practices; developing integration and programming points lists (Modbus, Bacnet, etc.); creating system commissioning test scripts and procedures; bench testing programming; organizing turnover to Project Manager.

RESOLVES SYSTEM PROGRAMMING ISSUES DURING CONSTRUCTION by: 

completing needed programming changes per field requirements or change orders; providing support and assistance to the Ops team during implementation and commissioning of programming.

ENSURES PROPER SYSTEM OPERABILITY by:

Conducting on site system performance verification with Ops to verify the system is functioning as designed; executing systems upgrades and performing routine maintenance.

COMPLETES DESIGN AS-BUILT PACKAGES by:                  

Obtaining project close-out material from Project Management; archiving design backups and completing all design As-Built documentation per Division standard practice and customer requirements; assisting with turnover to Service department as needed.

ENHANCE INDUSTRY TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE by:

Attending approved educational workshops and training classes; reviewing industry publications, product specifications, and catalogs; maintaining knowledge on the latest electrical, mechanical, and process control methods and procedures.

COMPLETES SYSTEM PROGRAMMING PACKAGES by:

Gathering system programming and graphics backups; archiving system backups per company and Division standard practice; assisting with owner training as needed; assisting with turnover to Service department as needed.

WILLINGNESS AND ABILITY TO TRAVEL by:

Understanding the importance customers with locations in multiple regions and travel to these site is expected (average of 25% travel); exhibiting a sense of urgency to the needs of the customers; cooperating in the effort to exceed customer expectations.
