We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston.
Activities associated with this job include posting monthly journal entries; reviewing invoices for proper coding; reconciling bank statements for multiple divisions; preparing reports for auditors and external parties; assisting with the coordination and financial status of each housing program; overseeing and assisting with procurement and cash handling policies and procedures; and preparing statements of financial operations and related accounting operations. Additional projects include assisting with the preparation and maintenance of individual ledgers for each program; maintaining records of fixed assets; and assisting with preparation of the annual budget process for each program. The Accountant also assists with overseeing investment activity and the submission of quarterly and annual reports.
Job-related duties require strong organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills; a strong understanding of accrual and fixed asset accounting; dedicated attention to detail; and the ability to be discreet and handle confidential employee and financial information in an appropriate manner.
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, financial management or related field supplemented with additional coursework in business administration and accounting; a minimum of three years of progressively responsible accounting experience in an office setting; experience in reviewing general ledgers for accuracy; strong working knowledge of Excel; considerable knowledge of federally subsidized housing programs; or any equivalent combination of education or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills: required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License. Must be bondable. This position requires a background check, credit check, and drug test at our expense.
The Housing Authority offers a great benefit package, valued at an additional 35%, which includes:
