Description You will serve as a DIETITIAN And NUTRITIONIST in the Department of Navy, Naval Medical Command.

This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

*** Salary will be predicated based on the work location/locality****Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
  • Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. (The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist: For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.)
  • Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
  • Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

FOR GS-13: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
  • Utilizing theories and practices of clinical nutrition and/or food service systems management to provide authoritative advice and coordination of nutrition care programs and resolve complex, controversial, or precedent-setting matters.
FOR GS-12: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
  • Directing activities of the department, providing guidance to subordinates, and providing advice to hospital staff;
  • Utilizing principles of management required to establish objectives, to control and coordinate departmental activities;
  • Managing/overseeing department program and maintain sound working relationships; AND
  • Carrying out the medical functions of the hospital to coordinate activities.
FOR GS-11: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
  • Planning, budgeting, coordinating, implementing, conducting, tracking and evaluating Health and Wellness; and
    Developing and providing general nutrition, specific diets, and disease implications and therapies based on community, individual health risk assessment results, and high volume and cost effectiveness.
Or
Successful completion of : three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field OR a combination of education and experience.

FOR GS-09: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
  • Evaluating nutritional assessments, reviewing and interprets pertinent diagnostic and treatment
    data, and developing, implementing and monitoring a nutritional care plan; and Reviewing and calculating modified diets to meet the special dietary needs of those patients requiring nutrition intervention.
Or
Successful completion of two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR a combination of education and experience.

Experience may include documenting the nutritional status, nutrient intake, nutritional education, and other pertinent data; participating in health care team rounds and treatment and discharge planning conferences, is recognized as the nutrition expert, evaluating nutritional care, and providing follow-up for continuity of care after discharge.
