Job Purpose

The Associate Director of Admissions, Campus Visits functions as a front-line professional, managing the complex campus visitation programs which serve over 30,000 prospective students and family members each year and ensure the accuracy of over 700 campus tours annually. Ensures that all prospective students and other campus visitors have a positive, personalized experience and will provide leadership and direction to front desk student workers and staff who assist in the visitor services center. Additionally, the Associate Director shares advising and management of the Charleston 40 Tour Guides Organization.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in admissions, visitor services or related field. Experience managing student workers or volunteers preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be well organized, personable and detail-oriented. Strong planning, organizing, computing and oral and written skills are essential. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other staff and members of the college community is required. Must have the ability to connect with students and family members of a diverse population. Must be articulate and knowledgeable regarding the college’s academic position as a competitive liberal arts and science institution. Must have considerable knowledge and skills in computer operations, data entry, MS Word, Excel and Access.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

This position requires some evening and weekend work, may require in and out of state travel and occasional overnight stays. Must have the ability to lift and carry 40-60 lbs and be able to gain access to higher level floors without elevator assistance.

Plan the daily schedule for coverage in the Visitor Center including Saturday and holiday staffing, when applicable. Works with office colleagues to make sure staff duties are filled and coverage is sufficient. Leadership of the Admissions front desk student staff. This includes personnel and budgetary management of 10-12 student employees, daily oversight, time sheet approval, and supervision/training of staff.

Activity

Assist the advisor for the student tour guide organization, Charleston 40, with organization and administration. Coordinates and assures coverage for daily, community group and special interest campus tours.

Assists in the planning, coordination, and execution of university admissions events, supporting the Assistant Director Admissions Events, to create memorable and impactful experiences for prospective students and their families. This role involves working collaboratively to organize a variety of events, including open houses, information sessions, accepted student days, and specialized recruitment events, ensuring seamless event operations from start to finish.

Key responsibilities include assisting with event logistics, coordinating with campus partners to secure venues and resources, managing registration and event communications, and providing on-site event support.
