Job Purpose

Education Coordinator for the Avery and Liberatory Literacies grant will collaborate with the grant’s Director, co-PIs, and College Libraries staff in developing curricula, developing and organizing programming (in-person and virtual), and leading marketing and outreach efforts for the grant.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in education, museum education, art history, or related field and minimum of one year experience teaching in an archive, museum, classroom, or library is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience conceptualizing, designing, and implementing educational materials and lessons for community-based educators, and administrators.
  • Art handling experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diverse, equitable, and inclusive museum experiences.
  • Research interest in the diversity of American history, identity, and narratives, specifically African American history.
  • Strong organization, communication, and writing skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to handle multiple tasks at once including researching and planning several projects at the same time. Experience and/or interest in research, libraries, genealogy, or other areas related to archival work is required; good written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently, as well as with the public and other staff members; computer experience, and appreciation for rare and unique materials that require special and careful handling; moderate to heavy lifting may be required
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications

*This is a temporary grant position exempt from grievance rights. This position is funded by other than State monies and continuation of this position is contingent upon availability of these funds.

Programming: Developing and organizing virtual, in-person, or hybrid lectures, presentations, workshops, etc. Programs include the local programming for the National African American Read-In (lectures and public readings during the month of February) as well as Black History Month, Women’s History Month and 160-year anniversary programming.

  • Assist the marketing team with creating promotional materials to advertise the programming and the release of the South Carolina Black History Bugle
