Description Cleaning and polishing furniture; washing windows; changing shower curtains and cubicle curtains on a scheduled basis; cleaning stairwells, balconies, elevators, steps, docks, and trash pickup points; cleaning exterior mats at entrances; removing snow/ice from doorways; cleaning spills; moving furniture; and setting up rooms. Incumbent scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using power cleaning equipment, changes brushes and accessories. May be required to work from ladders or scaffolding.
The Housekeeping Aid performs the full range of duties to keep assigned areas clean, sanitary, and aseptic in accordance with prescribed and written hospital housekeeping standards. Assigned areas may include wards, affiliated services, clinics, canteens, administrative offices, laboratories, research areas, entrances, docks and stairs. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: collecting trash and waste materials and delivering to pick up site or discarding in trash chute on assigned floor; maintaining floors and other surfaces daily; cleaning bathroom areas and replenishing proper supplies daily. Incumbent may also be assigned the following linen duties: collecting soiled linens, load/unload laundry trailer, replenish linen delivery carts, stock linen in various areas throughout the facility, and prepare and issue out surgical linen packs.

Work Schedule: 3:00pm -11:30pm Various days, weekends, and holidays (Training for new employees will be Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm. Normal schedule will resume after training is completed)

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position involves using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds. Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds.
